Welcome To Fine Point Portraits
I have always been fascinated with the quotes of famous artists rather than the opinions of art historians that try to explain what a particular artist was trying to convey. Hopefully the quotes included in this site will help better explain what the masters were really trying to do with their portrait painting. Of course we all try to get a likeness of our subject, but we also try to ignite an emotion from the viewer.
Throughout this site you'll find quotes by famous artists. I find these interesting and hopefully you will to.
Don Mazurkiewicz, Fine Point Portraits
Look and See
“I do not paint a portrait to look like the subject, rather does the person grow to look like his portrait.”
"The emotions are sometimes so strong that I work without knowing it. The strokes come like speech."
Vincent Van Gogh
More Than a Feeling
“Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter.”
About the Artist
Don Mazurkiewicz was born in 1959 and grew up on the eastside of Detroit. He earned his BFA from Eastern Michigan University in 1981, and resides in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. After many years of dabbling in technical and advertising illustration, surealist and abstarct paintings, Don has evolved into a refined portraiture artist. Don paints in a bold striking style with a saturated color palette including sections of heavy impasto technique. His appreciation for brush control and technique stems from his many years of technical illustration work in pen and ink.
Don is also founder and Creative Director of Fine Point Design, an advertising art company in St. Clair Shores, MI.

Mazurkiewicz strives to bring the viewer closer to his work by creating actual three dimensional areas in the portrait with a heavy impasto technique. This helps make the portrait come to life. The photos above illustrate the heavy impasto technique used in his portraits.
